The nursery. We have a 12x8' room for moms and their kids or for a snug refuge in foul weather.
There is an 8' half height door that latches closed with a couple of twisting blocks of wood - real high tech.
There is also a tarp that folds down when the wind gets bad to keep rain from blowing into the pen.
Notice the heated bucket on the right - an elbow of PVC covers the cord as it leaves the bucket into the tack room where it is plugged in.
Also, we have the cinder blocks on their side here to keep bedding from flowing out into the walkways.
Cassie! That's not your manger.

Inside the nursery. This was an old carport of sorts where folks worked on their tractors and cars.
It was really beat up so we added plywood walls to the inside to keep out drafts.
Notice the ventilation at the tops of the walls above the manger.
There is also a window in the rear that includes very fancy feed sack drapery for those rare cases we get a west wind.
The rear of the pen has a sleeping bench that runs across the whole back wall. That is a favorite spot for the yearlings.
A short wall in the center creates a very cozy nook for mommies to snuggle behind with their babies.
Very quiet and secluded. For anxious does, we hang a blanket down from the top to allow them more privacy.
Notice the Fortiflex mineral feeder on the wall that Alea is eating out of.
We hang the mineral feeders above "hinnie" height so they don't accumulate goat-berries.
So, we provide a cinder block (on its side so no caught hooves) as a step up to the minerals.
There is tube lighting on a timer in here too.
And, a place to put a panel across the doorway to the back area in case we want to divide the pen.

The manger in the nursery.
The top is on hinges and there is a handy block of wood that latches onto the end to hold it up when I'm filling it.
I really like having tops on my mangers.
Not only does that keep goats-on-pogo-sticks out of the mangers, but it provides a very handy out of reach area for setting down meds, tools, treats, diet soda, etc.
There's nothing worse than working up a sweat cleaning out pens to have some "helpful" goatie dump over your cold soda!
Yes Verity, I know that sodapop robs my aging bones of calcium but I'm entitled to my occasional caffeine free diet Pepsi!
